.: Moths & More
News
Afternoon all - I keep forgetting to update this for some reason, distracted as I am by all the excitement that knitting, researching my family and drawing my other grandad. I've only uploaded one of my holiday photos too, which must be unheard of! It won't last, I suspect... Art-wise, I'll be updating one of my latest book illustrations with 5 kittens instead of 3 - long story!
Autumn is closing in round here, leaves are just beginning to turn, so keep an eye out for some more foliage photos! I'm sure in no time at all it'll be Christmas (yay - birthday!) and time for frosty mornings and thick jumpers. It's always slightly sad when the days get shorter, but I can't help looking forward to winter.
Sunday Features
Yes, it's Sunday already! For some reason I forgot to do a feature last week, but never mind, eh? This week's features are actually topical, given that last night was National Moth Night in the UK. I love moths - I know not many people do (and if you look at how many of the pics below have criminally few favs, you'll see what I mean), but I just think they're so much more interesting than butterflies! There are thousands more species, and they're just as beautiful - and they're ideal for a photographer because if you find them during the daylight hours, they sit still long enough to photograph!
And so along with countless other moth-nuts in this country, I merrily set out my moth trap last night, and what did I find?
ONE moth.
I was not amused. To add insult to injury, it was a large yellow underwing, which is the moth species I've found most commonly in my garden. I once found 62 in the same night. That was fun.
So here's a selection of moths in art & photography:

Sunday Features are now a regular part of my journal - they'll appear (almost) every Sunday, and each will have a theme. The featured deviations could be linked by style, medium, subject matter…anything, really! I'll try to feature a mixture of pieces - some may have DDs, whereas others will have ridiculously few s, but they will all have caught my imagination, and I hope you enjoy them!

All completely stunning pieces of art, I'm sure you'll agree. I was so impressed by the quality of the entries to this contest, it was really tough to choose whom to give the new Highly Commended prize to. But...
